Bandung – The Center for Quality Assurance (PPM) of Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) conducted a strategic benchmarking visit to the Quality Assurance Unit (SPM) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The primary goal was to strengthen UIII’s internal and external quality assurance systems, with a specific focus on supporting its newly launched Master of Data Science program in preparation for national and international accreditation.
During the visit, the UIII delegation engaged in intensive discussions with key ITB officials, including Prof. Dr. Eng. Suprijadi, M.Eng., the Chairman of SPM ITB. A central topic was clarifying the accreditation pathway for data science programs. ITB explained that its own Data Science program falls under the accreditation authority of Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA), which focuses on natural and formal sciences with an emphasis on advanced mathematics and statistics, rather than Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Informatika dan Komputer (LAMINFOKOM). This insight provides crucial guidance for UIII’s own accreditation strategy.
The ITB team emphasized the need for Internal and External Quality Assurance Systems (SPMI and SPME) to operate in a synchronized manner. They highlighted the strategic role of the Center For Quality Assurance in ensuring and monitoring compliance with fundamental standards, such as minimum lecturer qualifications. Importantly, they stressed that while accreditation is an external driver, the ultimate aim is to cultivate a strong, intrinsic culture of quality within the institution. ITB shared practical examples, such as integrating Student Evaluations of Teaching (EDOM) with the lecturer remuneration system, to ensure that feedback leads to consistent, impactful improvements.
For UIII’s new program, the discussions yielded several key recommendations. These include a thorough review of the Master of Data Science curriculum to ensure it contains suitably advanced mathematics and statistics and the establishment of dedicated quality assurance units at both the faculty and study program levels to support the central PPM office. ITB also outlined its policy that pursuing international accreditation typically follows achieving an unggul or superior rating in national accreditation.
This benchmarking visit reinforces UIII’s commitment to building a robust quality assurance ecosystem. By learning directly from ITB’s established best practices, UIII aims to better integrate its quality processes, enhance data governance, and foster effective collaboration across units, thereby solidifying its foundation for future accreditation and sustainable quality excellence.
